Jaw

After the eyebrows, the jaw is the best indicator of the level of Wood in your personality. This feature is called “The Roots of the Tree.” A tree with strong roots can’t be pushed over, and if you have a prominent jaw (Fig. 57), you’ll tend to have a strong belief system and won’t be easily swayed.

Fig. 57: A strong jaw means strong convictions.

I find that politicians with strong jaws are often the ones who win elections because people subconsciously feel safe and protected by someone they feel will stand up for them. However, if you have this appearance, there’s a chance that you’re too judgmental of others, which can potentially interfere in relationships.

If your jaw is so large that it dominates your face, it can mean that you’re too forceful in your opinions. You can be severely judgmental, telling others what to do—whether they want to hear it or not! At the extreme is someone who tries to get everyone to think as he does. The stereotype of this is the military man with a set jaw and the attitude of “my country, right or wrong.” This kind of person can be domineering and controlling, and if there are no other features that diminish this effect, he can be very difficult to relate to.

A narrow jaw (Fig. 58) shows that you aren’t as set in your ways. You’re adaptable and open-minded. However, you may actually be swayed by your emotions or easily influenced by persuasive people. If the roots of the tree are shallow, it could fall in the wind. At the extreme, this could mean that you’re inclined to align yourself with whomever you think will benefit you the most, which can affect your reputation with others.
